ANIMAL CLINIC JAKARTA supports

the Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN)

ACJ and JAAN collaborate on awareness aspects, as we believe that raising awareness is the main key to improving the welfare of Indonesian animals.

Neither ACJ nor JAAN are rescue centres!. We therefore simply can’t take in all dogs and cats in need of help. We do, however assist with re homing and strive to teach general awareness about animal welfare.

JAAN does help with rescue operations of wildlife and strives to rehabilitate these animals back into the wild.

What You can do when you see an animal in need of help:

Domestic animals:

Please remember that any rescued animal becomes your responsibility. You should bear in mind what the future of the animal will be if it survives and the medical costs.

Please check the general condition of the animal and make sure that it can be handled in a safe way. Are you sure this animal needs help? Is it a kitten abandoned on the streets or is it just awaiting its mum?

Ask people around before you take action.

When you need to catch and handle an animal, you can cover the animal with a towel as this might help to prevent it from biting you.

Is the animal overheated?

Overheating happens often when an animal has been enclosed inside a building or has had no access to water on a hot day. It should be taken to the vet immediately. While the animal is being transported to the vet, a damp towel should be wrapped around it to help cool it down. In many cases, the animal will require an IV of fluids and intensive monitoring and treatment.

Is the animal in shock?

Any trauma or serious injury can cause shock. If you find an animal in shock, please follow the guidelines below until the animal can be seen by a veterinarian:

The animal should be carefully wrapped in a towel or blanket. Pull out the tongue gently to keep the airway open unless the animal reacts to that; you don’t want to get bitten. To conserve body heat, wrap the animal in a blanket or jacket. Transport it to the veterinarian immediately.

Wildlife:

JAAN cares for this unique bird and other raptors on Kotok Island.

Do you want to help, as a voluteer or by funding the activities?

A visit to the island allows you to learn more about the project!

Many wild animals in Indonesia are endangered and therefore protected under the Nature Conservation Law Nr 5, 1990. Under this law it is illegal to keep such an animal in your private surroundings. ANIMAL CLINIC JAKARTA and JAAN believe that wildlife should not have to live in captivity.

ACJ has special sedation equipment in case wildlife needs to be handled. ACJ doesn’t accept privately owned wildlife in the clinic though. ACJ recommends wildlife owners to surrender the animals to specialized rehabilitation programmes. ACJ can advise you on that.
